CHAPTER SEVEN

LORENZO

In general, I sleep in the morning. But I’ve been awake watching Lily sleep since she drifted off hours ago. At first, I waited for her eyes to flutter open so I could entice her into more lovemaking. I thought of waking her with just that purpose in mind. If she were any other woman, that’s exactly what I’d do. However, she’s so peaceful and relaxed, and I enjoy watching her.

Knowing my bite would increase her pleasure, she still didn’t ask for it, as Diana did. So many women long for the vampire bite. A consequence of needing blood, and perhaps it’s the nature of things, is that once women enjoy the pleasure of my bite, they long for more. This is why there have been very few lovers I’ve seen more than once or twice.

I wanted to taste Lily when we came together. I want to taste her now. I can hear the blood rushing through her veins. The monster in me wants to bite her and see if she’s as sweet as she was twenty years ago. But more than that, I want to claim her as mine.

I sit up. That’s new.

My sudden movement shakes the bed.

A soft moan rises from Lily, and then a sigh against the ruffling of bedding.

Joy fills me as I watch her catlike stretch. She’s lean and has tight feminine muscles. The sheet pulls away from her lovely round tits that fit perfectly in the palms of my hands.

I run my knuckles along her upper arm. “Good morning.”

She jumps to her feet on the mattress, naked and spectacular with her wings fluttering. Eyes wide and sparkling in the dark purple of fairy surprise, she sputters a moment. “I should go.”

“Should you?” My cock, which has been semi-hard all night, is at full attention now.

She floats to the floor near where we discarded our clothes and grabs my shirt to hold in front of herself. “I didn’t mean to spend the night.” Shaken, she begins snatching her clothes. “This was a mistake.”

My heart aches at those words. “Do you think so, Lily?” I find my pants and pull them on.

“Don’t you?” She’s clutching an armful of clothes as if I haven’t seen every inch of her perfectly fit body.

“I didn’t until you began acting like I’m the villain in some novel.” I don’t manage to keep my hurt out of my voice.

She enters the bathroom and comes out a moment later with my shirt covering her. With her wings pressed tight to her back and my large shirt reaching her knees, she could pass for a regular woman. “We’ve been friends a long time, Lorenzo. This…” She points to the rumpled bed. “Can only complicate our lovely relationship.”

“Sex complicates everything, but does that mean it was a mistake?” I want to scream that it was the best night of my life, but if she doesn’t feel the same, there’s no point. Rather than make the argument I want to, I head for the kitchen.
